Production Attic are proud to say that production is fully underway on a couple of awesome films, written by students of Aultmore Park Primary School in Easterhouse, which will be screened at their local VUE cinema in The Fort Shopping Centre.
We are taking a short break from corporate video to bring to life two of three films from the students of Aultmore Park, produced by Steve Johnson of Futuristfilm Ltd for VUE Cinemas.
The films, Ariana from screenwriter Nicole Grant (age 10) and Princess Butterfly from writing trio Sarah Louise McKay, Kaidenn McNabb and Bradley McConnay (age 6) were selected from a number of impressive outlines and storyboards.
Ariana
Ariana is the story of a young girl (Ariana, you guessed it) whose rivalry with her best friend surfaces ahead of a school talent competition.
The original storyboard for Ariana
Both Ariana and her friend Hayley think they are the best singer so we couldn’t adapt Nicole’s storyboard into any old script, it had to be a musical.
Research has been key to getting Arianna right. We have had to study up on our Glee and High School Musical (we actually did watch some High School Musical) and we have been working with Glasgow musician Kapil Seshasayee to write and produce a couple of short songs which should be stuck in the kids heads, and our heads, for a while to come.

Getting the glossy Glee look on the cinema screen is very important so we are shooting Ariana on the RED Epic. This is allowing us to produce extremely vibrant 4K images which will look at home on the VUE screens.

Princess Butterfly
Princess Butterfly is the story of a butterfly who want’s to be a princess. That’s pretty much it. Does she get to be a princess? You will need to watch the film to see, or look at the original storyboard below.
The original storyboard for Butterfly Princess
We felt that Louise, Kaidenn and Bradley’s story was simply too sweet to change so are bringing it to the big screen with as little tinkering or adaptation as possible. Using the original captions to their storyboard we recorded a voiceover, supplied by the multi talented Bradley. We also recorded the audio of improvised scenes with Louise, Kaidenn and other members of their class playing Rosie, The Queen Of Butterflies and a couple of other characters.
We loved the crayon drawings of the original storyboard so much we decided we didn’t want to change them either. We turned the classroom into a visual effects studio for a morning tasking the class to draw whatever characters, props and backdrops they could imagine for the story. We got some great results, for example Rosie’s pet cow who is also a couch…a cow couch, makes sense right?
Our effects wizard David Reynolds is currently doing his magic to animate Rosie and all the other drawings.

The films will be screened on Tuesday the 17th of June. We have had a great time working with the students of Aultmore Park Primary School. Though going back to school is definately strange and not without it’s problems as our DIT Barry will tell you:
