We produced a series of films for our client about the Digital Planning process in Scotland.

We were unable to film in person, so we shot interviews remotely over a Zoom recording and used stock footage to bring the story to life.

Let's demystify the process of video production. We estimate this example to cost around £3-4k because we logged roughly:

2 days of production management which is low as we just covered an activity that was organised by our client. As a ballpark we estimate 1/2 day management per day of shoot and edit. This could be higher for complex projects or lower if you can help with the creative or coordination. This includes scheduling, edit supervision and producing documentation such as risk assessments.

Shot remotely by the participants using their own phones or webcams with professional microphones and guidance provided by us. This is a technique we adopted during the COVID lockdown but still use as it's a cost effective way to include large groups of interviewees, vulnerable participants or people who are not in a convenient location to film. We edit clips provided by the participants with stock video and branded animation / graphic design.

5 days of post production time. Generally the length of post production depends on the volume of footage, number of deliverable versions (eg social cuts) and rounds of revisions budgeted. This was not consecutive days as we leave gaps for client feedback.

No voiceover recorded by us. VO is very effective but requires actor fees as well as scripting, recording and editing time. We only suggest professional VO if there's not a more cost effective way to convey information such as interviews, on screen text or a recording provided by your team.

No animation / graphic design was supplied by us. We can, as we did here, design simple titles or use stock animation as part of the edit process but where possible we suggest budgeting for original animation to elevate and brand any film.

Shot on phones in lockdown. This is a graduate recruitment film that we shot and edited during COVID-19 lockdown. In order to do this we filmed each interviewee using their own phones. We posted them all a microphone and phone stand then recorded the interviews via webcam with their phone positioned so our producer could see the phone screen and direct each participant. We also drafted filming guidelines and tested each setup in advance to ensure that each shot was well lit and framed.
