Remote Filming

We edited a Zoom recording of one of Shelter Scotland's lawyer-led workshops for the Homeless Rights Advocacy campaign. This was to create an archive copy of the training that could be shared with those who could not attend while removing any breaks in proceedings for better viewing.

The edit for this film was kept relatively simple at the client's request to match with previous videos that Shelter had created themselves as well as keep costs down. However we created intro and outro graphics to keep the final film clearly branded.

Let's demystify the process of video production. We estimate this example to cost around under £1k because we logged roughly:

Almost no production management which is low as we just covered an activity that was organised by our client. As a ballpark we estimate 1/2 day management per day of shoot and edit. This could be higher for complex projects or lower if you can help with the creative or coordination. This includes scheduling, edit supervision and producing documentation such as risk assessments.

Shot remotely by the participants using their own phones or webcams with professional microphones and guidance provided by us. This is a technique we adopted during the COVID lockdown but still use as it's a cost effective way to include large groups of interviewees, vulnerable participants or people who are not in a convenient location to film. We edit clips provided by the participants with stock video and branded animation / graphic design.

1 days of post production time. Generally the length of post production depends on the volume of footage, number of deliverable versions (eg social cuts) and rounds of revisions budgeted. This was not consecutive days as we leave gaps for client feedback.

No voiceover recorded by us. VO is very effective but requires actor fees as well as scripting, recording and editing time. We only suggest professional VO if there's not a more cost effective way to convey information such as interviews, on screen text or a recording provided by your team.

No animation / graphic design was supplied by us. We can, as we did here, design simple titles or use stock animation as part of the edit process but where possible we suggest budgeting for original animation to elevate and brand any film.
